1. What is Pediatric Urine Collector/Pediatric Urine Bag?
A special urine bag infant to collect the urine. This will be a medical grace plastic bag with a non-allergic sticky tape at one end to fit the baby's genital area. Open the bag and place it on your baby.
Wash the area around the urethra thoroughly with soap or the cleaning wipes are given to you by your health care provider. Baby girls will be cleaned from front to back and baby boys will be cleaned from the tip of the penis down.
For boys, place the entire penis in the catheter drainage bag and glue the adhesive to the skin.
For girls, place the bag on the side labia.
Place the diaper firmly on the pediatric urine bag. For active infants, this process may take a few tries - active infants can put the bag back in place.
Check on your infant often and remove the bag after the infant has urinated.
Pour the urine from the bag into the container provided by your provider. Do not touch the inside of the cup or lid. If at home, place the container in a plastic bag in the refrigerator until it is returned to your provider.
When finished, label the container and return it according to the instructions.
